How to Stop Caring What People Think about You
It’s easy to get caught up in the idea of how you are being presented to people and let their opinions and outside noise get to you. No matter where you are in life, I think everyone has had a fair share of opinions from others, whether that be strangers, family members, or even close friends of yours. One of the hardest things is not letting those opinions weigh you down, but heres the thing- once you learn to stop caring about what people think, you will flourish.
Now don’t get me wrong, I think being able to listen to the people that are near and dear to you is very important. You want to hear the opinions of people you love so that you can get guidance through the hard parts of life. However, if the things people are telling you are negative and hurtful towards you, ignore them!
Don’t let people stand in the way of your progress
One way to stop caring about people’s opinions of you is to realize that the time spent thinking about them is time you can spend progressing your own life and goals. For example, for me, having a website where I post my personal thoughts once a week can definitely cause people to say things. Maybe they think its weird, pointless, or going no where, and maybe they’re right!
But here’s the thing, if I sat there and thought about everything people would think about me before starting content creation in this way, I would have never gotten to where I am now. Even if that means I don’t have thousands of followers and making a crazy income from it, I have been able to learn so much about myself through this process as well as getting amazing experience in content creation, production, and analyzation.
Can you imagine if I never did any of this because I was worried about everyones opinion? You wouldn’t be reading this!
Realize No One Really Cares
This may seem harsh, but really no one cares what you do. Think about it- how often have you seen someone do something, think it is weird, and then go about your day and forget it. I bet you can't even recall an exact instance and the person involved in it. That’s because no one truly cares what everyone else is doing.
People are more worried about what they are eating for dinner, how much gas is in their car, and what time they are picking their kids up from daycare than to be worrying about why you are taking a video of yourself in the middle of a busy park- so do what you truly want to do!
Don’t Judge People Yourself
I know- this is supposed to be able other people judging you, not the other way around! But here’s the thing, if you are judging people yourself, it is likely that judgement is where your mind goes when you think of trying something new yourself. If you start being nicer to yourself and others, and truly become for others success, why not think that you are getting the same energy back?
It’s true when they say you are what you put out. If all you put out is negativity and judgement, that is all you’re going to see in the world. However, if you constantly look for the best in people and situations, all you’re going to think of is the good.
All in all, just remember that this is YOUR life! You don’t owe it to anyone to explain why you want to try something new, and you don’t need to search for their approval either! Do what makes you happy and feel fulfilled!
