My Perfect Routine

The Routine

Throughout my entire life, I have always thrived off of a routine. Whether it was setting an alarm to start my day at 8am sharp, or going to the gym directly after work, I have always loved the predicability that a routine gives me. With that being said, over the past year I have really nailed down my perfect routine.

One thing about me if that I love to get things done in the morning. I have found that the longer I put something off, the more likely I am to just not do it. Because of this, I like to get the bulk of my responsibilities done in the morning & it usually looks something like this:

  1. I love to wake up around 6:30-7:00am. I hate feeling rushed in the morning, so I like to give myself enough time to relax and take time for myself before starting my day.

  2. Lately, I have been trying to not go on my phone when I wake up. I have been LOVING waking up with my hatch alarm clock and then using a word search book to help me wake up.

  3. I go to the gym first thing. The second my feet hit the ground, I’m getting dressed for the gym & I will usually stay there for an hour or an hour and a half.

  4. When I get home, I will make myself a protein shake and make breakfast! I am always STARVING after the gym, so this is my favorite part of the day!

  5. Then it’s time to get ready for the day- shower & get dressed!

  6. Once I’m ready for the day, I like to spend time with God and in the bible. This time usually lasts about 30 minutes to an hour and it really helps start my day off in a positive way.

  7. Then I will clean my room. I want to make sure I have a clean slate for my day.

  8. Finally I’ll get started on my tasks for the day like start my laundry, wash the dishes, or start any assignments I have coming up!

Discipline

Some days my body needs more rest than others, or maybe I need an off day from the gym. Whenever that happens, it is important that I listen to my body so that I don’t get burnt out later on.

While I am all for doing what your body needs, I also think it is important to understand discipline. There is a difference between being overwhelmed with work or being physically sick, as opposed to waking up and being tired and snoozing for an extra hour.

One of my favorite quotes is “To see change, you need to make a change”. I love to remember this whenever I am feeling unmotivated. Think of your future self- don’t make them wish them started earlier. Once you start to build a routine, it becomes easier to do on the daily, but you need to have consistent discipline.

Find something you love

All in all, this routine isn’t anything fancy or groundbreaking, but having a few steps that I repeat every day allows me to start my day off great and thrive throughout it. Of course there are days that I don’t follow this routine exactly, but finding something that you love and look forward to while listening to what your body needs is one of the best things you can do for yourself.
