The Little Moments
Recently, my life has been filled with a lot of big moments such as friends graduations, new internships, promotions, and moving places. Once all these moments come and go, it gets harder to realize the importance of all the little moments that happen on your day to day. Whether its spending time by yourself at the beach or going grocery shopping with your friends, some of life’s most precious moments happen in the in between moments.
Embracing the In-between
One thing I have noticed is sometimes it is hard to realize the importance of the little moments in life until you are reflecting on it in the future. To be able to fully embrace these little moments as they are happening, I have started documenting these little moments- both physically and digitally.
I am the first person to say that I am not the best at journaling every day. However, whenever I think about it and sit down to journal about my day or week, I am able to document and reflect on the sweet moments I have experienced lately. For example, maybe I didn’t think that going on a walk with a friend was very important at the time, but when I am able to read about it in a year when we live states away, I will be reminded of the importance of that memory.
In a similar way, I love documenting my day to day in video or photo form. Having an actual visual to look back on and relive the exact memory as many times as I want makes it so special. As I document these little moments, I am reminded or the world’s beauty and how I want to document it as much as I can.
The Importance of the Little Moments
I often hear people saying things like “nothing is happening in my life” or “I’m just waiting until August for the next big thing to come” and while I get being eager for a big thing to happen in your life, if that is all you look forward to, you’ll constantly be in a season of waiting- waiting for the next big thing, waiting for something better, waiting to get through something.
But what if a majority of your happy memories were to come during that waiting season, and you aren’t giving yourself time to notice them?
Of course days like your graduation, wedding day, and the first day living in your house are important and pivotal times in your life, but they aren’t the only thing that defines you. The time you spend on your hobbies, with your friends, and by yourself are just as important. Overall, don’t be upset when your life seems to feel a little flat with no big events happening. Embrace the moments in between.
